Meetup Concoctions

On Saturday I attended a hair meetup where we were given several recipes for homemade hair products. I made a leave-in spritzer and used it immediately. Ingredients?

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp aloe vera juice
  • 2 tbsp glycerin
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (or EVOO as my friend Rachel Ray calls it)
  • a few drops of your favorite essential oil (I used peppermint oil)

I like it! Granted I need to us it more than once to tell definitively but just the process of making my own product was super easy and somewhat fun. What's your favorite product to make?

Hair Talk | Jan 27

Sunday: in the wee hours of the morning I LOC'd my hair with some water, JBCO+vitamin E mixture + Jane Carter Moisture and Shine then twisted into ~10 twists and bantu knotted each group of 3-4 twists
Sunday's bantu knot-out

Monday: didn't like the next-day hair so I co-washed + created an impromptu braided up-do for dinner with friends

Friday's blended "hair hat"
Tuesday: took out the braids but my ends looked dry so I ended up creating another random PS, this time pulled back into a bun

Wednesday: kept Tuesday's PS, spritzed with JBCO+shea butter oil+Carrot/Aloe Vera oil

Thursday: took out Tuesday's PS and decided to wear a hair hat

Friday: My roots and the hat didn't match so I spritzed my hair with water and twisted a 1 in front row into individual twists using Design Essentials oil (for sheen), halfway untwisted these twists so it would match the "hat"

Hair Talk | Jan 19

Week of 1/13
Sunday: braided my wash n go into 3 flat twists

Monday: kept my hair in the braids, oiled scalp with vitamin E oil

Tuesday: moisturized ends with Shea Radiance Nourishing Hair Repair Cream, pre-pooed with JBCO + Vitamin E mixture overnight

Wednesday: washed with dermatologist shampoo, deep conditioned with Organic Root Stimulator's Olive Oil Hair Masque + used Shea Moisture Restorative Leave-In Conditioner afterwards; I then parted my hair down the middle and did horizontal flat twists to the sides and twisted these ends back into 2 large twists, pinned then together and went about my daily biz-nazz

Thursday: PS from yesterday

Friday: ~4pm I took out the PS and had an AWESOMELY curly and shiny twistout but not sure if that was due to the pre-poo or the deep conditioner, hmmm...

Saturday: absolutely nothing but pin in an updo
This week's rating: 4/5 stars

My hair had shine after Wednesday and I accessorized with flowers throughout the week but Friday's takedown resulted in some breakage on the ends. No bueno.

YouTube is Expensive!

I'm sure some of you out there can attest to this - watching YouTube videos is expensive!

You watch 1 video and the natural chica is using a new product. You watch a product review and see what a great job it does on hair. Then at the end of the video, the chica says how cheap it is and where she found it...which of course makes you want to purchase it.

So..needless to say, I've decided to try out some new products. Just ordered them from Amazon/eBay..still have to pick some up from target/CVS but here's the list so far:

shampoo: creme of nature sunflower and coconut detangling shampoo
conditioner: garnier fructis triple nutrition conditioner
leave-in conditioner: mixed chicks leave-in
deep conditioner: miss jessie's super sweetback treatment
henna: jamila (w/vatika oil)
somethin special: aphogee 2 minute reconstructor

ladies - if you've used any of the above, do they get a thumbs up or thumbs down from you?
