PS: Kinky Twists

This Thurs-Mon I'll be attending Mardi Gras and I'm so excited! My first real taste of southern culture! I didn't want to fuss with my hair so I figured I put kinky twists in for the next 4 weeks or so.

This time was different from other times in 3 ways
1. The marley braid I bought was 100% Japanese blend, whatever this means. I just know that they didn't look "kinky" the first few days, but now I'm happy to say they're nappy :)
2. The twists were a tad skinnier than the last time and definitely skinnier than the time before that.
3. I started off with a braid instead of a twist at the root. The following video shows both methods, relatively well.

4. I started from the front of my head instead of the back because LORD KNOWS I get tired/lazy by the time I make it to the front.

What do you think?

Curlformers #FAIL

To Sally's I went after seeing numerous successful curlformers videos. I waited in a long line behind this ghetto a** lady who was yelling at the woman in front of her.. and bought a pack of long and wide (since the hair @ the back is longer than the hair @the front) and 2 packs of short and wide curlformers.
first mistake because I know my head is too big for just 3 packs of curlformers
Then I went home and attempted to set my hair with these contraptions. Needless to say, it was a very difficult feat. Many times my hair would get stuck when trying to pull the stick through. My experience was more like this one:

if not worse...
second mistake - just because you've seen 8 girls successfully put curlformers on natural hair doesn't mean they didn't have their fair share of bloopers at first
Has anyone had curlformer success or tips they would like to share?

I proclaim 2012 my retro year. 40s -70s inspired looks, in both clothes style and hairstyle. First look I can't wait to experiment with -

How was it done you might ask? Looks relatively simple to do.

Back!

Pre-poo complete. Here's how I did it. Pretty similar to the video I learned from. But with cooler audio and captions.

1st Do at Pre-Poo

Hola chicas,

So today will be my first attempt at pre-pooing. I shall let you know how it goes soon. Basically pre-pooing is a way to help moisturize the hair before washing it so that it's easier to manage when washing and after washing.

I finally decided to try it out after watching this video which made it look so easy. Try it out and let me know how it goes!

Trim + Tube

Part One - TRIM: I washed my hair for the first time in 1 month today. Used Palmer's Conditioning Shampoo + Conditioner along with Pantene Pro V Conditioner for Colored Hair. Surprisingly my hair was so soft. And since "no heat" is a rule in this Protective Style challenge, I finally trimmed my hair without straightening it first.

Part Two - TUBE: Also, a lot of people have been wondering how I did my kinky twists.

I guess they kinda remind people of dreads because they're thick and long. As it turns out, all I did was watch a youtube video! It only took me about 6 hours total. It's quite simple. Try it for yourself. This video makes it seem really easy:

Enjoy!
