Heatless

After 1 year (April 2012-April 2013) of not applying heat to my hair, I can say that I was able to maintain length, but not grow it. Therefore, this next year's theme will be protective styling. While I did enjoy wearing my hair straight, I would like to see how much I can grow over the next 12 months.

Oh! And that whole post-my-regimen-each-week thing was too much work for me. I realized it wasn't much of a regimen and I was just washing/co-washing/deep conditioning whenever I remembered to. But now I will follow a more strict regimen with:

Hair Talk | Feb 17

1| washed scalp with Shea Moisture black soap shampoo, conditioned with macadamia oil Organix conditioner, spritzed with my own leave-in and cornrowed for hair hat | Sunday
2| left in hair hat, moisturized scalp every other day with aloe+carrot oil, moisturized ends every other day with olive oil | Sunday - Thursday
3| washed with Shea Moisture black shampoo, used Aphogee's 2-minute reconstructor, left-in Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner | Thursday
4| slowly installed faux dreads. post to come soon | Thursday-Saturday

Overall, I must admit that I don't like this macadamia oil conditioner. It leaves my hair too limp and stringy.

Hair Talk | Feb 10

So I'm too lazy to remember to document my regimen each day. The basics of last week?

1| continuation mohawk | mon.
2| kept hair in 4 thick cornrows under my wig, 2-strand twisted the front with aloe+carrot oil | tues-sun
3| applied vitamin E (scalp) and aloe+carrot oil (scalp and ends)almost daily | throughout the week
4| about to take braids out | today

Pictures look the same as last hair talk. I know I've been slacking on washing/co-washing/deep conditioning but I've been at a conference for the last few days. I just know that when I do wash, I will not be using Garnier Fructis' Triple Nutrition Conditioner. It left my hair too mushy, overly moisturized. Time for a new regimen for February. I know they differ based on the season/location, but let's see if I can get this together by 12 twenty thirteen.

Hair Talk | Feb 4

Sunday-Thursday*: each day I spritzed with my homemade leave-in, showered for steam, applied dermatologist-recommended topical gel for my CCCA, retwisted top row of hair + sealed with shea butter, plopped on my hair hat and went about my biznazz!

Friday: @ night I took out the cornrows under my "hat"+ applied vitamin E oil to my scalp, aloe vera and carrot oil to my ends and washed my hair with the Shea Moisture Black Soap Shampoo, and conditioned with Organix Macadamia Oil Conditioner**

Saturday: I put my hair in a bun to go run errands

Sunday: I attempted a mohawk with a shoelace and 4 bobby pins.*Note, on Thursday I went to a different dermatologist and he said my medicine instructions weren't aggressive enough. Instead he told me to apply my gel twice a day instead of once, and gave me an oil to use instead of the gel. He also complemented me on my wig, saying he thought it was my hair and I blended it well :)

**Because I didn't deep condition this week, I read my book on Sunday (instead of doing so under my bonnet dryer).
